Dr. M. Vinoth Kumar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Delhi-NCR Campus, with more than 14 years of academic experience and a research specialization in Free-Space Optical (FSO) Communication. He holds a Ph.D. in Free-Space Optical Communication, an M.Tech. in VLSI and Embedded Systems, and a B.E. in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering.
His primary research interests include Free-Space Optical Communication, optical wireless communication, Radio-over-Fiber, photonics, Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors, MIMO-FSO systems, WDM/OFDM-based optical communication, atmospheric turbulence and attenuation modelling, and emerging 6G-IoT communication networks. His research particularly focuses on improving the reliability, capacity and robustness of optical wireless links under challenging atmospheric conditions through advanced modulation, polarization, MIMO, multiplexing and channel-mitigation techniques.
His recent research has progressed toward the integration of MIMO-FSO communication with FBG sensing for 6G-IoT and last-mile connectivity, addressing atmospheric attenuation, turbulence, temperature, strain and pointing-error effects. He has contributed research articles and conference publications in SCI- and Scopus-indexed venues, along with book chapters and other scholarly contributions.
In addition to research, Dr. Vinoth Kumar has extensive experience in teaching, technical training, student project development and academic administration. He has organized and conducted workshops in semiconductor technology, PSpice, PCB design, robotics, drones and related engineering technologies. He has also undertaken institutional responsibilities involving examinations, NAAC coordination, placements, conferences and student technical activities.
His professional profile combines academic teaching, applied communication-system research, engineering simulation, software development and institutional leadership, with a growing research trajectory toward intelligent, high-capacity and sensing-enabled optical wireless communication systems for 5G/6G and IoT applications.
