Eligibility
- A two-year Master's degree, or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed).
- An equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring the quality and standards of educational institutions.
- Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and successfully completed the M.Phil. degree shall be eligible to proceed to research work leading to the Ph.D. degree in the same institution.
- A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for candidates belonging to SC / ST / OBC (non-creamy layer) / differently-abled categories.
Research Areas
SRMIST, Delhi-NCR Campus offers Ph.D. programmes in Management Studies across all major areas of management.
Categories of Ph.D. Candidates
There shall be three categories of Ph.D. candidates:
- Full-Time: All candidates who pursue full-time research at SRMIST.
- Part-Time (Internal): All candidates employed at SRMIST who pursue part-time research at SRMIST.
- Part-Time (External): All candidates working in industrial units, colleges, government departments, research organisations or other institutions, sponsored for pursuing Ph.D. programmes at SRMIST while continuing to serve in their respective institutions / organisations which are recognised as Research Centres of SRMIST. They shall pursue research at their place of employment and / or at SRMIST.
Important Dates
- Last Date of Application: Candidates desirous of pursuing the Ph.D. degree shall submit the application in the prescribed form, through proper channels wherever applicable, to the Director (Research) before 31st March / 30th September each year. The application form and the necessary details are available on the SRMIST website.
- Entrance Examination: The entrance examination for admission to the Ph.D. programme is conducted in April and November each year. Aspirants are advised to stay in touch with the Admission Department or the website for the announcement of the exact date of the examination.
- Provisional Registration: The date of provisional registration shall be 1st July or 2nd January of each year.
Duration of the Ph.D. Programme

- The duration includes course work and is counted, along with the time for submission of the thesis, from the date of provisional registration.
- The Part-Time (Internal / External) Ph.D. programme is allowed provided all the conditions mentioned in the extant Ph.D. regulations are met.
- Women candidates and Persons with Disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years in the maximum duration. In addition, women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave / Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of the Ph.D. for up to 240 days.
Re-registration
After the expiry of the maximum period, including any extension granted, a candidate will be permitted to re-register as per the following regulations:
- Candidates who re-register under the same supervisor in the same area of research: the earlier Doctoral Committee and the course work completed will hold good.
- Candidates who re-register with a different supervisor in a different area of research: the regulations applicable to fresh candidates will apply.
- If the area of research is the same, the new Doctoral Committee will decide whether the course work completed earlier can be considered for exemption.
