SRM Founder Chancellor Donates Rs.1.15 Crores Towards Cmprf to Combat Covid-19

Teaching, non teaching and administrative staff of the SRM Group of Institutions have donated Rupees 1. 15 Crores towards battling the COVID 19 virus at a time when the world is struggling to come to terms with a pandemic that has affected more than 200 countries.

The Founder Chancellor of the SRM Group, Dr. Paarivendhar, who is also a Member of Parliament of Lok Sabha from the Perambalur Constituency, has transferred the money collected to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

Over the years, the students and faculty of SRM IST have actively participated in a variety of outreach programs. These programs allow them to use their knowledge, skills and expertise to transform the community. The university propels and encourages students to develop and instill a level of trust and confidence in the community they help.

Such programs allow our students to:

Develop strong personal integrity
Understand a different point of view
Reach out to help and to make a difference
Create a genuine feeling of respect for others
Contribute towards social investment

The initiatives are held in thematic areas such as environment, education, health, community development, etc. Democratically chosen student bodies drive all social activities with the help of faculty and other staff members. These interactions with the underprivileged sections of the society helps to boost the quality of life through the skills and knowledge of our students.

We have also launched other activities like:

Orientation Programs: This is held every year to showcase a brief glimpse of life at SRM IST to the new students. Questions are then answered by involving relevant faculty members and senior students.
Poster Making Competition: A Poster Making Competition was held on “Swachh Mind, Body and Environment” to help sensitize the students on cleanliness in-line with the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’.
Run for Clean India: “Run for Clean India” was organised to reinforce the importance of cleanliness in the surrounding localities under the “Clean India, Green India” mission.
Industry Visits: Every department organises relevant and compulsory industry visits to enable students to gain knowledge from a real-life experience. These visits also help them to connect with relevant industry people who may further aid them later in life.

Social Initiatives

Such social initiatives allow students to:

understand different points of view,
contribute towards social betterment,
reach out to help and to make a difference,
develop genuine respect for others,
develop strong personal integrity, and
learn where to draw the line and be sensitive while pursuing a profit-motive.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The Motto of NSS "Not Me - But You" reflects the true essence of living democratically and upholds the value of selfless service. It underscores the belief in the welfare of an individual through the welfare of the society, and thus NSS volunteers strive first for the well-being of society.

The NSS started at SRMIST Delhi-NCR Campus in 2018 under the guidance of Director Dr. S. Viswanathan, Dean Dr. D. K. Sharma, Dean Campus Life Dr. Navin Ahlawat and Dean Admission Dr. R.P. Mahapatra. Its sole aim is to provide hands-on experience to the young students to deliver community services and to arouse a sense of social responsibility in them through various activities like yoga, cleanliness drives, awareness rallies, poster-making, innovative workshops, seminars, social write-ups, quiz competitions, and special day-camps at the adopted villages.

Blood Donation Camp

A Blood Donation Camp was organized on 19th Feb 2019 and on 20th January 2020 in association with the Rotary Club of Modinagar where all students participated and pledged to donate blood regularly in the future as well.

Workshop

A workshop on “Social Sensibility through Technology and Literature “was organized on 21st Feb 2019 to create social awareness in the students.

Special Day Camp at Dausa Banjarpur Village

A one week ‘Special Day Camp’ was organized at the neighboring village, Dausa Banjarpur in Modinagar from 22nd Feb 2019 to 28th Feb 2019. 150 students and a large section of the faculty offered their services at the camp to clean-up the village and to create a level of trust with the villagers. This shall help us to offer more community services in the future.

Workshop on Swachh Bharat Mission

The Department of Management Studies organized a Workshop on 12th Oct 2018, in association with PAHAL, an NGO to commemorate the 150th birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, under the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India. It helped sensitize students as well as the community members towards the relevance of cleanliness.

Run for Clean India

To reinforce the importance of cleanliness in the surrounding locality, the Department of Management Studies organized a “Run for Clean India” on 12th Oct 2018. Students, faculty, and staff members from various departments ran to support and be responsible for a “Clean India, Green India”.

National Cadet Corps(NCC)

The National Cadet Corps is the Indian military cadet corps with its head Quarters at New Delhi. The defence of our country demands that all young men of the country should undergo military training so that their services may be utilized when needed. With this end in view the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Act was passed in 1948. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and Universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course but are given preference over normal candidates during selections based on the achievements in the corps.

The NCC has three wings: Army, Air and Navy. Different Cades are trained in different wings. Cadets, Joining Air and Navy wings are given specialized training. Those who want to join the NCC have to go in for a medical examination. They must be physically fit. They have to attend the Annual Training Camp also. NCC makes the youth of the country disciplined, dutiful, and physically fit. They learn how to obey and command. Thus, they become very helpful in building the nation on a strong basis.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Modinagar, Ghaziabad has exemplified a proactive approach in nurturing the holistic development of its students by furnishing essential infrastructure, appointing a dedicated coordinator to oversee the comprehensive functioning of the NCC from 2020 within the college, and maintaining regular collaboration with the regional NCC headquarters for the seamless execution of diverse activities. This concerted effort underscores the institution's unwavering commitment to cultivating an environment conducive to the multifaceted growth, disciplined ethos, and refined leadership acumen of its student body.
